Simar's debut album, Billo, is a genre-defying declaration that reclaims a word long defined by a male gaze and hands it back to women. Blending Punjabi, English, R&B, hip-hop, pop and trap, it sits at a sonic intersection mainstream Punjabi music has never fully explored, globally contemporary and deeply rooted at once. Written, sung, and composed in both English and Punjabi by one of the few women to do so in this space, Billo is a personal and cultural statement: proof that South Asian women are not just consumers of music but its creators, composers, and visionaries.
